Tracey Hickman has worked in the energy industry for more than 25 years, and joined the Genesis Executive Team in 2012.
In June 2025 she became Chief Operating Officer, responsible for leading the company’s diverse generation assets, steering our programme to develop and access new renewable generation, and heading our sustainability, environment and community investment teams. Tracey stepped in as Interim Chief Executive for six months until Malcolm Johns joined the company in 2023. Prior to this she was our Chief Customer Officer leading Genesis’ Customer teams and Retail operations. Tracey’s earlier roles on the Executive included Generation, Trading and Fuels.
With a Master’s degree focusing on natural resource management, Tracey began her career with the Electricity Corporation of New Zealand, managing large scale environmental reconsenting projects and iwi/stakeholder relations. She became Genesis’ Environmental Manager before moving into broader general management roles.
