Anna Berka

Anna has worked as a practitioner, researcher and consultant in community energy and inclusive innovation over twelve years internationally, in the UK, India, New Zealand and Australia.

She has an in-depth understanding of barriers, opportunities, delivery models and enabling contexts for energy democracy internationally and experience in impact evaluation and policy analysis. Anna charges CPA's mission to build an evidence base that can support energy democracy in Australia and beyond.

Prior to her work with Community Power Agency, Anna was a Senior Lecturer at Massey University in New Zealand where she taught and researched in climate change economics and policy, business sustainability, and analysis.

She has also worked for New Zealand’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority and co-founded a social enterprise supporting community energy in the UK in 2012 (Scene Consulting). Anna pioneered the first datasets and taxonomies of community energy sectors in the UK and New Zealand, and has published influential work on the impacts, governance and policy of community energy. Her latest work compares governance and policy for energy democracy in different countries and distills best practices.

With five degrees in science, environmental economics and policy, Anna loves to bridge different perspectives on sustainable development.
